Who is CWAS?

Child Welfare and Adoption Society (CWAS) is an umbrella body that encompasses three homes namely; Nsambya Babies Home, Kankobe Childrens Home and Nateete Family Group. CWAS bears the responsibility of overseeing all activities carried out in all the homes named above and to make sure all the homes stand to look after the different age groups of children under their care and protection.

CWAS Activities
  1. Admitting, caring for and protecting abandoned, orphaned or abused children.
  2. Tracing the parents/relatives of the abandoned children.
  3. Reunifying children with their biological parents or existing relatives.
  4. Arranging from the Homes fostering/adoption of children whose biological parents or relatives CWAS has failed to trace for.
  5. Following-up children who are reunified with their biological parents/relatives and those on different forms of placement.
  6. Counselling caregivers, abandoned children, couples that wish to foster or adopt children, and the youth especially at adolescent stage.
  7. Providing education, through people of goodwill, to children who have not been fostered or adopted into families.
  8. Giving seminars/workshops to parents and children on spiritual life, life skills, positive behavior, HIV/AIDS prevention, cultural values, etc.
  9. Organizing outreach programmes to cater for children outside the Homes of the Society.
  10. Networking with organizations and individuals who have similar interests and objectives.
  11. Farming to improve the diet of the children and for income generation.

Activities of the CWAS Head Office

  1. Care and protect vulnerable children by overseeing the administration of Homes of CWAS, its assets, and projects.
  2. Ensure that CWAS complies with all legal obligations as stipulated by the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development (M.G.L.S.D), URSB, URA, NGO Bureau, the Church, etc.
  3. Fundraise for various activities of CWAS for the benefit of vulnerable children. Budget for the various activities of CWAS and produce reports to relevant authorities and partners.
  4. Ensure that all policies governing care for vulnerable children are adhered to and are up-to-date.
  5. Provide education for children under CWAS who have not been fostered or adopted into families.
  6. Organize seminars/workshops for CWAS stakeholders to ensure that they are well versed with child care policies.
  7. Through outreach programs, CWAS supports our foster families which need economic empowerment by getting sponsors for the children's education.
  8. Promote public relations and networking with partners who have similar interests and objectives for vulnerable children.
  9. Boost CWAS projects such as farming, Millennium House, Child Welfare Guest House, and others, to promote self-reliance and reduce dependency.
