CORPORATE INFORMATION

Child Welfare and Adoption Society (CWAS), is a charitable non-governmental organization Reg. S.5914/504 based at Nsambya along Nsambya Hospital Road in Makindye Division, Kampala District and operating under the patronage of Kampala Archdiocese. The Society takes care of neglected, abandoned and orphaned children, nurturing them to grow up into responsible adults. It was established in 1958 by Fr. Rawlinson, a Mill Hill Missionary priest, to coordinate the social work activities in Catholic child care institutions in different areas in Uganda. Since these children were from different backgrounds: culture, tribes and religious denominations, the name changed from Catholic Child Welfare and Adoption Society to Child Welfare and Adoption Society in 1964.
As the Society had similar Homes in other parts of Uganda, due to financial constraints, the Bishops in 1966, agreed that each Diocese looks after the affairs of its local children. Consequently, CWAS remained under Kampala Archdiocese.
